The world, in my opinion, has enough gritty realism. We see it on the evening news and in the morning edition. As a painter renders his perception of what he sees, I attempt to filter my experiences behind the lens and my perceptions of the world around me through imagination. What hopefully results is a photograph with a more vivid, distinct, and enduring impact than the objects and experiences that inspired it.

A softer, friendlier view of the world? Perhaps. Sometimes idealized? Surely.  But who today can say that they do not sometimes crave a visual respite from life’s sometimes stark realities.

One of the joys I experience in digital photography is its almost limitless creative ability. That the artist can present a photograph as faithfully realistic or totally fanciful is such a satisfying experience. Although photography is my basis medium, I think of myself more as a Print maker attempting to capture that fleeting interpretation when image meets intellect. My work consists of both photographs and Fine Art prints. While the photograph emulates traditional film photography, the art prints afford the latitude to expound upon its base. Through digital enhancement and/or application of traditional art techniques, the photographer’s vision can be exponentially expanded.

As the medium of presentation is an important and integral component of the process, I print all of my works on a variety of archival surfaces. Matting and framing are, likewise, done using only museum quality components.

So, if you see in my creations a thread of joy, or whimsy, or nostalgia, then my goal has been accomplished.  Visual art, in any of its forms, can be thought provoking, introspective, or inflammatory.  To those adjectives I would like to add calming and joyous.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy viewing these works as much as I have enjoyed creating them. If so, again, the goal will have been accomplished.
